An A to Z of All Edible Berries (As Many as I can find!)

Berries have always fascinated me, and it seems like I come across a new one every week.

Yesterday, it was the thimbleberry to my utter delight, thanks to a post on Threads.

In my back garden, we’re blessed with a couple of Saskatoon berry trees. This year, we harvested 5 pounds, about half, or less what was on the tree. I hope the birds and others enjoyed it. At the same time, I began reading The Serviceberry, a book by Robin Wall Kimmerer which suggests a more inclusive, thoughtful approach to living.

Growing up in Nigeria, the berries I thought about, and encountered were strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, not so much blueberry, and almost exclusively in jams, not fresh fruit.

Then travel - holidays, stays made me familiar with berries.

I got to pick blackberries when we lived in The Netherlands and make some delightful things with them.

In 2011, when we moved back to Nigeria from The Netherlands, we were THRILLED to discover that strawberries grew in Jos, in the north central region.
