What a fantastic shop. It reminds me of the Costcos and Makros of this world.
This is a huge wholesale (and retail) store with about 44 branches across the Netherlands that stock almost everything you can think of.
The branch I frequent is the Forepark one and with every visit, I discover new things and so this page is regularly updated! Check back now and again for additions!
From fruit and vegetables and I mean exotic fruit and vegetables, including the regular. You have edible flowers…… herbs, tropical fruit like Kumquats and Limequats.
All types of Pumpkins, Courgettes, peppers just name it. You’ll find it. When I’m looking for vegetables which I won’t find in any of the markets around me – Leiden, the Hague, Rijswijk, I head there. It was here I first some the world’s smallest tomatoes – Tomberries

Regular edible flowers and salad greens are in abundance – as in Pumpkin flowers but you also get a range of others – from Japanese Shiso leaves to Begonia flowers.
And desserts – sure, you’ll find a ready selection
In the baking section, you can also get jars of dried petals for decoration.
It was there I got my 2.5kg bag of Callebaut white chocolate… which I’ve used for frostings and in cakes…with not a great deal of joy. I used to LOVE white chocolate. I’m hoping that this recipe will rescue me from eternal aversion to White chocolate, when I get round to making it.
And should you be in search of cookware, bakeware and serveware….look no further than Sligro! I finally got my baking beans which I didn’t buy at E.Dehillerin in Paris…

Is it seafood that you can’t get here? Name it… it is as fresh as the sea. Lobsters, Crabs and even Frog legs aka Jumping chicken are all regulars. The service is excellent – you can have the whole fish gutted for you, all varieties and packed in a foil bag, which is sealed and in which you can leave the fish for another couple of days – and have it almost as fresh.

Not to mention the poultry – Quails eggs, Guinea fowl in addition to Confit de Canard (which I love) et al. And beef…. all varieties including Angus. New zealand lamb – an endless list really.
If you’re looking for edible bugs….this is the place to go.

I love the fact that when they have seasonal produce/products, it is reflected in the price…like this 5kg box of cooking pears for just 4 euros! Or 3 kg of delicious JonaGold apples for a mere 4 euros too! And the tastiest Mandarins of the season are to be found there, also by the box!
Speaking of seasonal…in addition to Wild Mushrooms, you’ll also find Truffles this autumn, available to buy.
Plus the staff are really lovely…friendly and kind. Remember my plum story?
You need a special pass to get in though. Some companies have arrangements with the Store so you can get in on a day pass with your Company id card.
You could get your own card by requesting The Haguest card! So if you’re in the Netherlands and you’re looking for something exotic and way out that you can’t get in your regular store, try a branch of Sligro close to you!

Hi,
Nice story !
2 points of attention :
1) You are talking about Sligro Den Haag/Forepark. (There are 3 or 4 Sligro’s in Den Haag)
2) You cannot buy a pass….

[...] The mushrooms I speak of today are the fat-free, low calorie wild mushrooms, which are the crowning glory of a soup that graced our lips this past weekend. I am getting more and more into cooking seasonal and few things are more autumnal than the girolles (Chanterelles) and the pieds de mouton (called anything from Hedgehog mushrooms to sheep’s/pig’s foot) out of France (at Sligro!).
