And while I haven’t been to the actual resturant, this was food from their kitchen!
See, a few weeks ago, there was an Cultural fair in The Hague. Daughter #2 and I went and after walking around for a couple of hours, we were starving! In search for food,we discovered Phonsawan’s ‘set-up’! Again, I say ‘set-up’ ’cause this was a spread, albeit limited that they had put on for the fair.
It was a Thai buffet…and kids ate for free! No reason to hold back.

By the time we sat down to eat, they had run out of beef in red curry….but had a fantastic replacement-chicken in green curry! They also had Tofu in Brown curry with cashewnuts, mixed vegetables and chicken in oyster sauce.
My first port of call (and my last) was the chicken in green curry. There was a gentleman on hand to educate me. See, I was suprised at the addition of red curry to the dish. He said it was purely for colour and not for taste and that clicked. I guess I worked on the same premise when I made my Saag Chicken Stew! He also said that when they made their red curries, they added green pea aubergines…also for colour!
Anyhow, the rice was amazing, soft and slightly sticky. The green curry was amazing -lighty and watery but fragrant and flavour-some. The sauce was sweet without being sugary, hot without burning, fragrant without being overpowering and just plain delicious. The bamboo shoots and green beans were cooked to perfection. Look, considering that this wasn’t onsite cooking, it was super amazing! So amazing that I will definitely go to the real resturant!

And my discovery were the black fungus-mouse ears. They had a bit of a slippery texture but were smooth, earthy and tasty on the tongue. Something I will experiment with in future.
Then I tried the chicken in oyster sauce. It was nice but I much preferred the former.
My 4-year old insisted on eating with chopsticks….suffice it to say I finished my meal and we were still there! I hoped no one would come in and see her using chopsticks in such a manner:-) I was so pleased she wanted to try, forget not doing it the traditional way!
A great meal overall, worth a repeat. Someday soon!
