Lovely blog! The fruit you call “nispers” is actually called a mispel (plural mispels). It’s botanical name is Mespilus germanica, in English: medlar. It’s a very interesting fruit which is eaten when it’s rotten. The inside of the medlar will go mushy after freezing (naturally on the tree or in a warehouse) and tastes a bit like a musty custardy applesauce. It takes getting used to, but once you do it’s really lovely. The tree itself is pretty and grows well in Holland.
